Songs about suicide

Suicidal thoughts, direct suicide or songs linked to the author's suicide. No songs about despair, depression, melancholy, taedium vitae or any other emotion that may be associated with suicide without being the direct cause of it. No songs that may be interpreted in other ways. No songs about someone else's suicide.

If this topic disturbs you, please, check other collections (there are nice ones out there, don't worry). Totally open to suggestions.

Famously known as the "Suicide Song", it was linked to many suicides in Hungary, included the composer's.

Kind of subtle, but it reflects the suicidal thoughts of Chester, along with his emotion of despair, confusion and emptiness.

The genre played by Nirvana (and Linkin Park, above) is prolific for songs with similar topics. Here the suicide topic is a bit subtle. Nevertheless, the song is the last one ever recorded by Nirvana before Kurt's suicide and reflects his pain (to which he surrenders), not only through the lyrics, but also through his singing.

The topic of suicide here is slightly different. I don't want to include songs about someone else's suicide in this collection, however, this is a poetic prayer about suicidal people. Not only about them: the song is full of hope for a world in which people wouldn't feel like committing suicide anymore and for this reason, I feel like it deserves a place here.

In times of despair, the singer seeks for help, but he doesn't want to hurt his loved ones. The suicide (possibly by drowning) is caused by this inability for the others to help him, he feels isolated and, thus, he isolates himself even more.

I don't like when the lyrics aren't sung in first person and instead talk about someone else's suicide, but the point of view here is different and underlines how people know so little about each other, often being upset and shocked after discovering about the suicide of the most normal person.

Same as above, but with something more: here the characters are a poor man and a rich man, but the one who's seriously suffering is the latter, while the poor one wishes to be rich in order to be happy. A confirmation of the classic "money don't buy happiness".

I wouldn't say EVERY song from Nirvana (even though the band's name means "heaven").

Hangman looks round as he waits, Cord stretches tight then it breaks, Someday we will die in your dreams, How I wish we were here with you now

Radiohead - "No Surprises"

Suicide Is Painless, the theme from M.A.S.H.

That was also a one hit wonder as well but I personally prefer this song WITHOUT the words but that's just me

And arguably also: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/dissection-maha-kali-lyrics.html (the author actually killed himself after publishing the album of which this is the last song).

I can't remember who preformed this one but if my memory is correct it is about suicide. The song is called If I Die Young

I have an interesting song for you (well it sounds different than many of the songs already in your collection). The song is called Inside the Fire by Disturbed

And at first I wasn't sure if this song fit this collection, until I looked it up on Wiki and it seems like it fits. Here is the link to the wiki information: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside_the_Fire_(song)

The song features suicidal themes, and, in May 2008, a music video was unveiled for the song. However, due to the involvement of suicidal themes in the uncensored music video, an edited version of the song and music video was released, in which these themes are absent.

According to vocalist David Draiman, the song is "a real racy song. about me standing over the body of my girlfriend, who just killed herself, and the Devil is standing over me, whispering in my ear to kill myself."

Commenting further for The Pulse of Radio, Draiman stated, "it is based on a true story of my own where, when I was about 16 or so, I had a girlfriend of mine commit suicide," he said. "It was an unbelievably horrific and painful experience, and it was cathartic to make the song, and it really took me having a certain mindset to do it, and I had to wait 'til I was ready."

A music video for "Inside the Fire" premiered on May 2, 2008. A suicide hotline phone number appears before the video, due to its nature and content, along with a message from vocalist David Draiman regarding suicide. An "all-performance" version of the video premiered later, featuring no dark themes or messages.

The video begins with a girl (assumed to be Draiman's girlfriend) hanging herself in her apartment. Draiman arrives at the apartment, only to find her dead. He cuts her down and places her body on a couch, taking in what has happened. He then cleans her in a bathtub. He goes back out to the room in which she hanged herself, and looks out of the door, making sure no one is there. Mentally stricken, he takes a gun placed on the wall and aims the barrel into his own mouth and starts screaming. The camera then fades out and back in, showing Draiman restrained in a straitjacket, showing that he could not bring himself to commit suicide. The edited version of the music video, which does not feature any suicidal themes whatsoever, simply depicts Disturbed playing the song in a dark room, with the band members occasionally covered in blood.

Orelsan - La Peur de L'echec. In this song, Orelsan talks about all his fears in life, the fear of being useless, and concludes by explaining how he wants to kill himself in many different ways. . Orelsan - Suicide Social . Craig Grey - Fade Away . Eminem - Stan . Eminem - Beautiful This one is a bit particular: The first two verses were written when Eminem was in a period of drug addiction following the death of his best friend Proof. And it was a period when he had suicidal tendencies (he escaped death from an overdose twice). When Eminem successfully completed his cure, out of drugs, he decided to delete all his music made while he was on drugs, except this one. He wanted to use this music as something positive, keeping the first two verses, and adding the third as a boost, something positive to help everyone who was in a deep depression and ready to end it. So it's free to you to consider it as a suicide song or not

Merci, je vais tout ajouter quand j'ai un petit moment libre.

It's a homage to a fan that committed suicide and how the singer feels he couldn't or didn't do enough to help her

This song is about seems to be about suicide to. With lyrics like.

I was frozen in place, even when the voice in the background spat out observations But it doesn’t matter anymore because your face, right before my eyes, looks so forlorn I guess there’s nothing we can do but hate our own mortality

On the white wall [behind you] you’re surrounded, almost tenderly, by such a deep scarlet color Your cheek is still slightly warm when I touch it and I can see the hint of a smile [on your face] My large tears fall onto you; I just feel so helpless I [gently] close your eyes; your warmth is already starting to disappear but I’m still here by your side

This song is a continuation of the other song I recommended "BATH ROOM"

Does this count? https://lyricstranslate.com/en/YOLANDA-DEL-RIO-Hija-de-nadie-lyrics.html Two lovers (later find out they're brother and sister) commit suicide together as a result of being unable to accept that despite being blood related, they fell in love.

Oooh, incest, my favourite.

Jokes aside, there's already another song about love and suicide, so I guess this can be added too.

I know there's a few more in a playlist I made a long while back, I don't think they're on this list so if I find them I'll list them.

Do you read the lyrics to make sure they fit or do you just take our word for it.

The lyrics for The Gazette's songs can be rather meaningful sometimes.

Usually I do. Sometimes, though, it might take a little more time to analyse the lyrics, so I just take your word, because I can't stay all day trying to figure out if I want to add it or not.

Oh, is it? I'll take a listen to other songs from them then. Cheers.

https://lyricstranslate.com/en/calm-envy-calm-envy.html-1#songtranslation (This is about a break up or someone in a relationship deceiving the other)

https://lyricstranslate.com/en/dlm-dln.html (This is song from the perspective of a girl born with an illness slowly making her lose her sight until she is blind)

Most of the meaningful lyrics I've mentioned are from there songs in mostly Japanese. A lot of the songs that mix English in with Japanese can have seemingly non nonsensical lyrics. But the lyrics in the 3 of their songs in this collection are sad/beautiful

I don't think they fit here to be honest. Sorry. The second one has interesting lyrics, though.

I wasn't giving those songs as examples. I gave them as suggestions since you said you might check out more of there songs

Oh, sorry, I completely misunderstood. I'll check them, thanks a lot.

And since I left some of the lyrics when suggesting Bath Room you've likely figured out what those ones meant.

Dripping Insanity is song from the perspective of the person who found the body.

Depending on how you interrupt the lyrics this song could be about suicide sorta or stopping one

Here are some translations I found

If you just jumped in wanting to be hurt, then you never needed police from the start

"This isn't a dream" don't be surprised if your knees unconsciously weaken If you close your eyes and count, You'll learn just how common it is for people to turn and desert others

If you give the lonely girl a determined embrace, there won't be any tears

'Please do something with these feelings, hey please do something !' I said as I got closer

Yeah, looks to me more like they're witnessing someone else's suicide which isn't what I want this collection to be about.

Bury a Friend by Billie Eilish is more about sleep paralysis than suicide ^^

That "I wanna end me" doesn't sound like she's talking about sleep paralysis, although I agree that the rest of the lyrics aren't really explicit about it. Has she ever spoken about the meaning behind her song?

Yes she did, well mostly about the album as a whole She explained that each piece of music on her album could be identified with different stages of sleep. When fans hypothesized that this music represented the sleep paralysis Billie had already experienced, she kinda validated this theory, as Billie had already confirmed that the music was sung from the perspective of the "monster under her bed", showing a confusing relationship with them
